What’s the difference?

Monday, January 26th, 2009

OnlineMetals carrys a pretty wide variety of materials, and some times it’s hard to tell exactly what you want.

We know that pictures can really help, so we’ve added group shots, with labels identifying which item is which.

There are pictures to show the difference between welded and seamless tube.

The different alloys aluminum sheet comes in.

…and that aluminum pipe or tube comes in.

The difference in shape, between American Standard, and Aluminum Association.

Which is a question you’ll have to answer whether buying Channel, I-Beam, or Angle.

We hope it’ll make your shopping experience better!

I bought one…

I wondered how well our cutting board would work if I just bought a piece, and took it home to use it AS IS.

Well, its now my favorite kitchen accessory.

It won’t chip, doesn’t peel, or crack, or warp…and I’ve run it through my dishwasher about a million times now without issue.  It’s chemical and bacteria resistant, and I can abuse it as much as I want…because it’s a cheap slab of cutting board.

Oh…but it still looks GOOD!

Here it is in my very own kitchen.

…and here’s a close up:

and here’s my hand:

I know…I could be a model. Ha!

Anyway, I just wanted to share my personal experience with this product. If you have any questions about it, feel free to call us. (800) 704-2157

Cutting Board Material: HDPE

Monday, January 5th, 2009

This is one of our newest, and to date, the most controversial material stocked at OnlineMetals.com.

Controversial? Why???
Well, because the President, Chief Technical Officer, and Marketing Director couldn’t agree on what to list it as, on the home page.

OnlineMetals sells multiple sizes, so it should be labeled “Cutting Boards?”
- NO. “Cutting Boards” implies this…

and prefab, silicone injected, “housewarming gift” cutting boards aren’t what we sell!

What About “Cutting Board Material?”
- Well yeah, that’s more accurate…but is it catchy enough? Will it attract customers?

Hmmm…well, it’s technical name is HDPE.
- Isn’t that a skin condition?

No…idiot. HDPE stands for High Density Polyethelene, and it’s pretty cool stuff.

HDPE is:
Food Grade
Dishwasher safe
Cleaning chemical resistant
Can be fabricated with similar techniques to wood fabrication

Made from nonporous material that meets FDA and Federal Specifications, National Sanitation Foundation, and is accepted by U.S. and Canadian Departments of Agriculture. It’s light weight, acid resistant, will not chip, peel, crack or warp. It’s not moisture, odor or bacteria absorbent.
(Wow, does this sound like an infomercial yet?)
“HDPE slices, dices, AND makes julienne fries…and if you act now, we’ll throw in this handy dandy OnlineMetals.com. keychain too…a $17 value…your’s free. ”

OK…so we don’t have OnlineMetals.com. keychains…YET.

But we do have HDPE, which is used widely in industrial and retail food processing operations. You can use it in your domestic food processing operations too, so order now.
